Dry Ridge Roofing

Dry Ridge Roofing from Oakcrest Roofing

The ridge is the most exposed line on any pitched roof, catching wind from both sides. When it is bedded in mortar, the joints eventually crack and the tiles work loose, and a falling ridge tile is a real hazard to anyone below. A dry ridge fixes each tile to a timber ridge batten on brackets using stainless screws, with unions covering the joints between tiles.

Underneath, a ventilated roll is dressed onto the tiles either side. It keeps out driven rain and birds while letting air escape from the top of the roof, which helps reduce condensation in the loft. We fit dry ridge on new roofs or swap out a failing mortar ridge on an existing roof, reusing your ridge tiles where they are sound.

A written price first

You get an itemised quote before any work starts, so you know what you are paying for and nothing changes once the scaffold is up.

Photos of what we find

We photograph the parts of the roof you cannot see from the ground, so you can judge the problem for yourself rather than take our word for it.

If a repair will see the roof through, that is what we quote. When a roof is at the end of its life we tell you, so you can plan instead of paying twice.

Tidy sites, waste removed

Your garden, drive and windows are protected while we work, and every old tile, batten and offcut leaves with us at the end of the job.

Drone roof surveys

Our drone roof survey and aerial inspection service provides an instant, efficient and safe way to assess the condition of your roof. Using HD drones, we capture detailed images and videos of hard-to-reach areas, identifying potential issues like leaks, cracks, and structural damage.

This non-invasive method reduces risks and disruption and results in accurate data without the need for roof ladders or expensive scaffolding. Ideal for residential, commercial or industrial properties, this service ensures thorough, cost-effective inspections every time.

We advise that you get your roof professionally surveyed every 2-3 years to keep up with any potential damage and early signs of wear and tear. If we catch minor repairs early, they will not become a more serious problem in the future.

FAQs

Common questions about dry ridge roofing

How do I know if my ridge needs attention?

Look for cracked or missing mortar along the ridge line, tiles sitting at odd angles, or mortar debris in the gutters. If in doubt, we can check it and send you photos.

Can my existing ridge tiles be reused?

Usually. Most ridge tiles come off intact once the mortar is cleaned away. Any broken ones are replaced with the closest available match.

Is a dry ridge noisy in the wind?

No. Once fixed, the tiles are held firmly and the roll sits tight to the roof, so there is nothing loose to rattle.

Does a dry ridge help with condensation?

It can. The ventilated roll lets warm, moist air escape at the highest point of the roof, which supports loft ventilation alongside any eaves vents.
